Signaling that he’ll seek re-election in 2014, Gov. Nathan Deal has scheduled a $1,000-per-person luncheon for May 10 in Atlanta.
“He has every intention of running again,” said spokesman Brian Robinson, adding that the event will be Deal’s first fundraiser since he was sworn in Jan. 10.
Late in January, Deal declined to speculate on any possible plans for 2014, saying his immediate goal was “to do the best job I can.” ...... ... ... . ... ...

Under state law, Deal was barred from raising money during the session of the General Assembly, which began on Jan. 10 and ended April 14.
Kennesaw State University political science professor Kerwin Swint said it’s not rare for a new officeholder to start raising money early in his term.
